Weekend Intelligence: October 16, 2010

October 16, 2010

Need something to read this morning to feed your travel jones? After a two-week hiatus, one of my favorite features, Weekend Intelligence, makes its return:

  • Silversea Cruise Line has slashed single supplement prices on 24 of its sailings for 2011. Now you can sail solo aboard the luxury liners for only 110 to 125% of the double occupancy rate. Between the Norwegian Epic’s studios for solo travelers and this news from Silversea, it looks like cruise lines are beginning to take notice and accommodate those of us who travel alone.
  • I’ve been dying to get back to New Orleans and I will one day soon. If you’re like me and you’d like to let the good times roll in the Big Easy, here’s an article from Travel + Leisure  about exploring the new New Orleans. Laissez les bontemps rouler!
  • Feeling burned out from the corporate grind and feel the need to get away? A career break may be just the thing for you. If you missed out on a gap year adventure, there’s the career break, a growing movement geared towards people who’d like to take time off mid-career to travel and perhaps find themselves again. Susan Stellin of the New York Times on “Making the Dream Trip a Reality.”
  • Introducing the Single Occupancy Weekly: a collection of the week’s best stories and shares by other solo travelers I follow via Twitter. This week’s headline: Kate of Adventurous Kate shares her itinerary for the seven months she’ll be spending in Southeast Asia. Read on.

Have a happy weekend!
